Internships / work experience

YAQ is committed to supporting the career development of young artists, artworkers and cultural producers. As part of our commitment, we offer a number of internships and work experience opportunities throughout the year.

These places are available to young people who:

  • need to complete an industry placement as part of their educational program; and / or
  • want to gain industry experience and start to build their industry network on a volunteer basis.

Based on our experience in offering meaningful internships and work experience opportunities, students and volunteers normally focus on one project that is tailored to their skills and knowledge and takes into account their personal interests and career goals.

Projects are identified and agreed upon prior to the commencement of the internship or industry placement period. Interns that have previously completed an internship / work experience project with us focused on the areas of publication development, production management and program marketing.

Interns work flexible hours in the YAQ office with the support of YAQ staff. Internships can run for one or two semesters or just a couple of months.

Internships are generally unpaid.  We encourage university students to seek credit for an internship arrangement with YAQ.

YAQ cannot usually accommodate one-week intensive work experience arrangements.

If you are interested in joining us for an industry placement, you can either apply through your university liaison or to us directly:  creativedirector@yaq.org.au  or 07-3252-5115
