New season in cubes
Cubes are the new black this Spring. In.cube8r gallery in Fortitude Valley are launching their new range of cubes filled with wares by local artists and craftspeople on Monday 12 September 2011.
YAQ is supporting artist Alex Isaacson to bring her lovely sock monkey creations to Brisbane. After a watery start to 2011, due to the floods, Alex submitted an expression of interest to our Don’t let nature stop you call out in June. In consultation with in.cube8r gallery, YAQ has secured Alex a cube in a prime position for a 3 month period.
I am so grateful and excited about this opportunity to have my Sock Monkeys at in.cube8r. To be honest after the floods in January my Monkeys were pushed a little to the side, I had bigger problems with the immediate issues of being out of a home for a few weeks, then the 8 months of fighting with insurance agencies to have my yard re-landscaped. I know that doesn’t sound like much but we live on the side of a hill, our front yard is literally holding up the road and our back yard is on the edge of Murphys Creek. During the floods our front yard had a landslide and caved in on itself, and our backyard was a bog heap. I was also in the middle of fitting out the new ARI that my friend and myself were opening. Everything was effected by the floods in some way. For me it was my practice, I didn’t want to be at home as the house looked like a nightmare. All that time and effort was literally washed away, and then with the insurance company it was just a headache. When the YAQ and in.cube8r opportunity came along and I was lucky enough to get it I felt my luck turn around, it was a brand new kickstart back into what I love doing. – Alex Isaacson
In.cube8r is a gallery space that is open to anyone who makes things by hand and has a range of options for showcasing and selling work. They take no commission from sales and can house upwards of 90 artists work at any one time. Congratulations to Alex for getting her practice back on track. Make sure to head to in.cube8r to check out the sock monkeys on sale and other wondrous things from local artists.
