Alexander Kelly
Sound Designer
Brisbane
Mentor: Mark Blacker
Alex's main area of interest is the creation of music and sound through digitalized media such as synthesizers and DAW based programs. He has been using various Midi software programs to compose his own music for around two years, and has so far been able to create many styles of music. His focus is mainly on orchestral scores, soundscapes for movies and TV, contemporary pop tracks, trance and dance as well as hip-hop instrumentals. Alex also works on progressive/abstract styles, ethnic percussion, contemporary drum loops, and single-sample waveforms.
Alex completed the Diploma of Music (Technical Production) last year at Southbank Institute of Technology. Through this course he learned how to set up for live shows and mixing and recording using analog equipment.
Alex works part time in family company Bright Spark Productions. His major duties are information technology support and multi-media production including transferring audio data, cropping and editing wave files for audio CDs, remixing and mastering soundtracks, video recording and editing, 35mm and digital photography, image manipulation and voice work for media productions.
Through this mentorship, Alex hopes to learn more about the set-up and running of live shows and how to operate multi-channel digital desks, as well as the use of effects in theatre and other live productions. He hopes that through this mentorship he can learn the skills required to set up and run large live shows at large cultural organizations such as QPAC.
