Zoe Porter

Visual Artist
Brisbane

Mentor: Ian Friend

Zoe Porter's arts practice is primarily painting on paper, using watercolour, ink and gouache. She also works with a variety of other media including soft sculpture using found objects and second hand materials. Zoe recently graduated from the Queensland College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) in 2005. In 2006 she completed a residency in Burgundy, France where she focused on watercolour painting. After the residency Zoe travelled throughout Europe for three months studying historic and contemporary visual arts. Since graduating she has participated in group exhibitions in Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and New Zealand. She has held solo exhibitions at The Hangar and Clemenger Artspace, two venues specifically engaging with emerging artists.

Zoe's aim for the YAMP mentorship is to develop and extend her current painting practice within a broader context. She proposes to explore a variety of new media and surfaces, experiment with scale and proportion and investigate other methodologies such as printmaking and digital collage. Working with her mentor will consolidate and extend her existing technical knowledge, provide valuable information to assist in networking with arts professionals, and provide a solid groundwork for exhibiting and collaborating with other artists in the future.
