Chloe Cogle
New Media
Brisbane
Mentor: Sally Golding
While looking forwards into the future and sitting at the intersection of contemporary new media art, Chloe Cogle actively turns her direction backwards to the origins of media. Her work investigates what can arise from the exploration, excavation and performance of local and personal histories through old photographic technologies and performance methodologies.
Chloe's work intersects photography, performance, installation, and sound art. Her specialised focus looks directly at the memories located within old photographic subjects and the sense of nostalgia that comes from viewing this media today. Simultaneously Chloe's art is a functional contemporary art model which acknowledges historic threads yet seeks to interrogate the way, as humans, we view and use new media technologies within projected and live art.
I work with a variety of cinematic imagery: film, projection performance, spoken narration and installation. I'm fascinated by the way that photographs can act as a prosthetic memory. They capture an experience that is lost in time and no longer repeatable.
